Will be interesting to see the power of CMS in 10 or 20 years time. Needing to learn CSS, php, javascript, etc will go out the window.

Ernie,
Wordpress is a bit of a mental shift for some web designers, because it's a different paradigm. You don't build a site from a mockup (Photoshop rendering of a design) you find a theme you like and then style it to your liking. This being said it should not take her "months" to learn Wordpress. To become a high-end wordpress designer and understand the coding and the css behind it etc WILL take months, maybe years, just like in the old days, but its not necessary, you can make perfectly decent sites without being an expert. It's all up to the individual what level they want to engage at.

Oh yeah? (Concerning this article.) I have begged my webmaster to convert my website to wordpress thesis theme 'cause of all the good I've heard about it, instead of doing a complete re-design. She's looked into it, even got me going with three email addresses on Bluehost, then writes me back and says it would take her months to figure out and understand wordpress, she'd "have to read an entire book." I've never been so confused. She's designed many websites ... but she can't figure out this "easy as pie" deal called wordpress????
But a 'newbie' can? I am totally absolutely confused. Can anyone help? What in the world is going on, I've pointed her to a thousand videos and tutorials of people using wordpress thesis theme for their biz website??? Yikes!

I love Wordpress as a CMS. Not too long ago I partnered with a website design company here in Derby, UK, that have their own custom built content management system. The CMS has so many flaws that I ended up parting ways with them as I felt they were seriously over-pricing their customers when you can get a Wordpress site with custom themes for far less.

I also love the fact that Wordpress has so many plugins that can pretty much do all that you can dream of, like turning your blog into an e-commerce site, ideal for businesses that sell by the item.

Great article.
